Dear Diary,
Went Riding with Mom today, if you can call it that. It was more of a meander from one patch of wildflowers to another so she could pluck them and put them in a bag she'd brought specifically for the task. I swear I spent more time sitting on my horse waiting on her than actually riding. It was pretty though, the splashes of color all around and I have to admit that the bouquet she gathered looks great on the dining room table.

Dad, not to be outdone by wildflowers, went to the nursery and bought flat after flat of perennials to be planted on the property. I swear you'd think he had a full-time gardener or something and not the local company that comes in once a week to mow.

I guess tonight we're all spending the afternoon putting the flowers in the ground. He wants to sprinkle splashes of color all around the barns and house. I really don't mind. It might be nice to get my hands in the dirt again.

Our garden in the back of the house is all starting to fruit. We put in tomatoes, onions, Serano peppers, zucchini, corn, tomatillos, eggplant, garlic, squash, cucumbers, and several kinds of lettuce. There also is a bunch of fresh herbs in pots all over the back porch. It's very fulfilling to have a garden grow.

Yesterday at the tack shop, Old Ed, gave me a wild rose he'd picked from the front of the store. Sweet, but ick. I know he's just a harmless old guy that hangs out with the rest of them but it caught me off guard. His grandson, Jason, was my date to prom ages ago and I think he still wishes Jase and I were a couple. Jase is off learning to be a veterinarian though, and I wasn't about waiting. Life is too short!

Speaking of Jase, he sent me an email to let me know he'd found an internship in Rawlings. He has big dreams of coming to work with Dr. Schwartz, and maybe buying him out when he retires. You know him, he's our farm vet. He's getting on in age though and could probably use the help. There are a lot of horse and cattle ranches around these parts.
Well, I have to go. Time for dinner and then planting a bazillionty million flowers.

Toods.
