Rules & Guidelines

Membership Basics
- You must be at least sixteen (16) years of age to join Spur.
- Accounts must be activated via email before you can login.
- All usernames must be a human-like name — no HorzeLvr, etc.
- The username you choose when registering is used game-wide, so choose wisely.
- All members must have an active, working email address.
- We expect all members to treat each other with respect. No bullying or trolling of any kind will be tolerated.
- Each member may only have one (1) account at a time.
- Your official joined date is the date listed on your dashboard — the date your account was fully set up.
- Activity Requirement: Members with no contact (forum or Discord) for four months (one Spur Year) are marked inactive. After eight months (two Spur Years) they are removed and their horses put up for adoption. Declaring hiatus on the forum or Discord exempts you from this rule.
- Members who leave in good standing are always welcome back.
Apprenticeships
- Upon joining, all members are an "Apprentice". During this time they must still purchase stalls, located on the property of an existing host stable until sim magic moves them to their own.
- During this time the stable is named "Barn Name at Host Stable". The member must be listed on their host stable's website to be considered official.
- Apprenticeships last thirty (30) days or 25 forum posts, whichever comes first. After this, members may submit their stable for approval and become a host facility themselves.
Time
- One RL month = 1 Spur Season.
- Horses age every Spur Year (four RL months). There are three Spur Years (SY) in one RL year.
- The current season and year are shown in the site header and on the forum.
| Spur Season | RL Months |
|---|---|
| Winter | January, May, September |
| Spring | February, June, October |
| Summer | March, July, November |
| Autumn | April, August, December |
Horses
- All horses must be registered to exist within the game.
- All horses pass away at age 30. Any horse over 20 could pass away — handled automatically at the start of each season.
- Each horse must have a unique name. Please check the registry before registering.
- Horses cannot be named after famous horses (e.g. Totilas, Valegro).
- There are two types of horses:
- Foundation — created using a Credit.
- Bred — bred within the game from registered horses, requiring one breeding credit.
- All horses must have a stall, regardless of whether they are "free range".
- Horses must be at least three (3) years old to be bred.
- Horses must retire from competition at age 18.
- Mares may have one foal per birth year.
- There is no gestation period.
- Providing health care and purchasing supplies is optional but highly encouraged!
Establishments
- Members may open a business as soon as they would like.
- Members must be active for at least one (1) month before opening an association.
- To open a stable you must purchase one stall per horse and one acre of land per arena or course. See the Apprenticeship section above.
- All establishment websites must have a disclaimer stating that it is not real and part of Spur with a link back to the game.
- When creating your website take your time designing it. Plain pages without any effort or formatting won't be approved.
- All images and links must be working and text legible.
- The URL you provide must be a working url (including the https://).
Money, Spurs & Credits
- All members have the potential to start with $100,000 ($50,000 for joining + $50,000 for posting their introduction).
- All members begin with ten (10) Credits used to create horses.
- Spurs are our member incentive program — earned via community activities and redeemable for Credits, real estate credit, or cash.

Hosting Events
- Associations may post for the entire Spur year.
- Associations are asked to "claim" certain days of the week to hold shows — you can do so here.
- Associations must post their monthly shows by the 15th of the preceding month.
- Associations must stick to their chosen days, or they will be moved.
- Players may utilize association dates starting on the 16th if associations fail to post by the 15th.
- Members and associations may hold a maximum of eight events per month (season).
- Shows must be posted in the Pending Forum for approval.
- In-Hand shows must be held separately.
- Entries must be open for a minimum of one week and close the day before the show.
- If entry fees are charged, prizes must be offered.
- One show per discipline per day may be held. All approved shows are listed on the Calendar.
- Levels may have a max of three tests/phases. Each test/phase counts as a class but may have separate purses.
- Spur uses an automated entry system. If you choose not to use it, you are responsible for ensuring entries are correct.
- Shows are only re-run due to errors with our script or web host. It is the host's responsibility to ensure entries are correct before running.
- Purses are divided among the first six horses in a class (40% / 25% / 15% / 10% / 7% / 3%). Payouts are not dynamic.
- Entry fees and payouts are handled automatically. Per-owner tallies appear at the bottom of each show's results.
- Classlists must follow a specific format (see below). Curated classlists per discipline are available in the classlist templates section on the forums.
Disc. - Level: Phase/Test - Purse
General Guidelines
- There are no mandatory rest periods in Spur.
- Horses must have been registered on or before a show's closing date to be included in entries. This is automatic.
- The only discipline-specific young horse classes are "Prospect" and "Suitability". Horses are automatically aged out of these levels.
- Prospect: horses and ponies aged two (2) years old and younger.
- Suitability: three-year-olds whose discipline has no standard level open to them.
- Horses cannot be trained as "In-Hand" — this designation is for shows only.
- Racehorses cannot enter in-hand classes.
- Horses may begin at any age-appropriate level in an approved discipline.
- Horses may advance a level when they achieve a new title or have competed at least two (2) seasons at that level.
- Age-based levels are divided as follows:
Western
- Futurity: 3–4 year olds
- Junior: 5–10 year olds
- Senior: 11–15 year olds
- Masters: 16+ year olds
Driving
- Novice: 3+ year olds
- Limited: 5+ year olds
- Open: 6+ year olds
Honor System
- Points are automatically awarded and tracked via our database.
- Upon reaching certain milestones, horses receive an honor title.
